Context

A new product with no inherited interface—and three places it had to feel at home.

The engagement covered a greenfield YouTube product from initial product framing through detailed UX. Responsive web, Android and iOS were in scope from the start.

That made the central design problem larger than screen adaptation. The product needed one understandable model across all three surfaces, while still respecting the navigation, interaction and layout conventions people already knew on each platform.

The product and its screens remain under NDA. This case is limited to the verified remit and working method.

The work

Define the product once. Design each surface deliberately.

UX leadership covered the complete path from product journeys and information structure to platform-specific interaction design. Stakeholder sessions were used to resolve product questions before they became three different interface problems.

The platforms were developed as one system rather than a web design followed by two mobile translations. Shared logic stayed shared; navigation, hierarchy and interaction were adapted where the operating system or screen demanded it.

Design demands

Coherence without forced uniformity.

01

One product model

Keep the core objects, actions and journey logic consistent so people do not have to relearn the product when they move between devices.

02

Platform-native behaviour

Use Android, iOS and web conventions where they reduce effort. Consistency matters, but familiarity on each platform matters more.

03

Resolve flow before polish

Work through the end-to-end journey and difficult states before visual detail. A clean screen cannot repair a broken product model.

04

Decide across surfaces

Review the three platforms together so a local interface choice does not quietly create a different product elsewhere.

What can be said

A complete cross-platform UX definition for a confidential YouTube product.

The engagement established the product journeys, information structure and interaction model across responsive web, Android and iOS. The work gave stakeholders a coherent product definition and each platform a considered experience of its own.

No product screens, feature details, launch claims or performance figures are published because the engagement remains confidential.

One product should not become three different ideas just because it lives on three platforms.
